IDSWalk Richmond, founded in 2009, plans to become a staple HIV/AIDS outreach program for the Richmond Metro area. Scott Sibley, the Founder and Director of AIDSWalk brings over twelve years experience in managing events such as AIDSWalk in the Washington D.C. region. Scott began his work on AIDSWalk Richmond after losing his life long friend to AIDS in 2007. Scott immediately began to realize the outcome of his friends life could have been much different provided he had proper education and had been able to overcome the idea that HIV was something to be ashamed of or ignored. Scott now makes it his duty to show the residents of the City that HIV/AIDS is not a disease that belongs to any one type of person or lifestyle. It is an epidemic that can impact anyone at any time.
ith new infection rates in the Richmond area climbing, the plan of AIDSWalk Richmond is not to only offer one event each year, but to remain a constant image in the City of Richmond. This plan to remain attached to the public in different forms of events will serve as a reminder that no matter who you are, HIV/AIDS can impact you personally. Please check our events schedule for updates on festivites AIDSWalk Richmond brings to your community. Through this offering of diversity, AIDSWalk Richmond gives all Richmonders a fun and exciting way to show their support for those living with HIV/AIDS. These events will not only be a great way to show suppport, but also will give each person who lives with HIV/AIDS a true feeling of self worth but a feeling of community strength and security.
oughly 3,700 citizens of the Metro Richmond area are HIV positive. 234 of those were diagnosed last year alone. Men, women and children of all ages, races and sexualities rely on the multiple Healthcare Clinics which offer low cost or free HIV related services. AIDSWalk Richmond understands that the services clinics offer at free or reduced rates can become very costly for the providers. In an event to show support to these organizations, AIDSWalk will offer donations and grants to these clinics. Funds raised by AIDSWalk Richmond will be put back directly in to the community. Rest assured AIDSWalk Richmond is dedicated to supporting RICHMOND. Your participation and generosity will make a big difference in the lives of those most affected by HIV/AIDS in our community.
